Popova Shapka Ski Centar Snowboarding West of Skopje and Tetevo on Sar Mountain, the Ski Centar Popova Shapka ski area has six runs totaling 10km that are served by 6 lifts accessing a maximum vertical drop of 1,400m.Most of the runs are intermediate, but some more difficult run can be found on the upper half of the mountain. This is a bare bones ski area with an impromptu ticket office at the hotel and few trail maps. The runs are mainly unmarked and there are no warning signs marking hazards. Most of the ski area is above the treeline. Of the 6 lifts, there are several t-bars and slow chairlifts. Extreme freeriders will get pretty burned out on the limited pistes very quickly. Luckily, Popova Shapka is also well known for its snowcat accessed off-piste freeriding. The main freeride zones are off the backside of the resort. To reach the snowboarding at Popova Sapka Ski Area, fly into Skopje. It is about an hour drive to Tetovo. From Tetovo, head west on the long snowcovered road up to the Popova Shapka ski area base (90 minutes total). Alternately, you can fly into Belgrade and drive south for 8 hours to Popova Shapka. There are an additional five ski centres located nearby to Ski Centar Popova Shapka.
